ECG CHURCH NEVER HAD INTENTIONS TO RENEW CONTRACT WITH REGARD TO USE OF PRETORIA SHOWGROUNDS FOR ITS SERVICES.
For immediate release
20 JULY 2020
Pretoria, South Africa: The Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church would like to inform its members, followers, partners and the general public that it never harbored intention of continued use of Pretoria Showgrounds for its church services.
The church used to have a one year renewable contract with Tshwane Business and Agricultural Corporation (Tshwabac) which, this year, was due for renewal as early as February to latest June.
However, the church—even before the COVID-19 lockdown regulations were put in place—never made a move to renew the contract because the church had already started developing its premises in Midrand, Johannesburg, and was sure to move out of Pretoria Showgrounds.
The church also understands that the City of Tshwane recently re-acquired Pretoria Showgrounds from Tshwabac; notably, we haven’t had any interactions nor negotiations with city officials as there is no need for such.
As a church, we are happy that—because of our church services which continuously attracted over 50 000 people across the world—we were credited as one of the major contributors to economic activity in Tshwane with offsets in tourism, accommodation, massive informal trade around the church, supermarkets, and transport, regrettably, our move is tantamount to Great loss to Tshwane community.
We strongly believe that everywhere we go; we will continue putting in place measures to ensure that the community, just like Tshwane, benefits from our presence.
