South African based Malawian Artist, Onesimus was nominated for the Best Male African Artist award for his song, ‘Sounds of Peace’ in his latest album, ‘Messenger’ at the reputable and prestigious All African Music Awards (AFRIMA) nominations unveiling in Lagos Nigeria earlier this week.
Speaking to ECGnews, the Major 1 Records star said, he was overwhelmed by the nomination, “Wow…! It’s a great achievement. I didn’t expect this and it has come as a surprise to me,” he said
The full list of nominees for the 6th edition of the awards which was unveiled by the International Jury of AFRIMA comprises of 10 Regional Categories and 26 Continental Categories.
The Continental categories were made up of different genres of African continental music from different categories ranging from Pop, RnB and Reggae to Hip-Hop, DanceHall, Jazz and many more.
The Producers of the year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best African Collaboration categories were also put in mind.
Onesimus thanked God of his spiritual father, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, who is affectionately known as Major 1 that even in his capacity of working hard, this God has uplifted him, “Though in my hard working competence, I also thank God of Major 1 for making this happen. I know there are more hard working artists out there but God has graced me with this award,” he said.
Speaking on the release of the sixth AFRIMA final Nominees List, one of the Jury members representing Southern Africa said: “As with each year, the musicians never stop to amaze us with their incredible talent. As jurors, we are impressed by the quality work they produce. This list of nominees is the true representation of world-class African talent”
