Malawi’s number one gospel artist, Lilongwe ECG based worshipper, Wendy Harawa has clinched a spot, making it to top 15 finalists in her category of the 2019 Maranatha Worship Awards nominees taking place in Kenya.
The purpose of this annually hosted function is simply to acknowledge the authenticity of biblical based worship music in Africa.
Her song “Chisomo” from her upcoming album which features the Nigerian “Jimmy De Psalmist” and “Lulu”, Malawi’s musical guru, is nominated for two categories; outstanding Petition and Supplication Song of Excellence and Outstanding Collaboration Song of Excellence.
“I am so excited about the nominations, this is my first ever gospel album and it is due to be released in June this year, but out of 53 participating countries, “Chisomo” has made it to top 15 and it is already receiving a huge air play beyond our borders”, Wendy told ECG news online.
“It has been a year since I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, and this is the first song released but nominated already, it is only by His grace that I am proud to publicly declare that Jesus is my boss and where I am right now is the right place”, she cheerfully added.
In the interview, Wendy took the opportunity to reveal that her upcoming album is about the music that feeds the soul, in which she is expressing herself to God through worship and speaking to people at the same time.
Wendy said she is grateful, beside competing with great African gospel artist from across the world, she has also been honoured to perform at the grand stage of the continent’s most prestigious awards ceremony on 12th May in Nairobi. “A request to all my brothers and sisters where ever you are, please vote for me, for the name of God to continually be glorified.”
