Many children of great men of God live in the shadow of their parents and fail to succeed them or to live up to their expectations. Born of the seed of a prophet who is also a great teacher of the word, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, the ECG youth Magnets do not fall far from the tree. They emulate their spiritual father and align themselves with his vision for the church.
Only so much can be expected from a two year old, but this child called Youth Magnets is already sprinting steadily.
They’ve single handedly changed the traditions of the weekend for a significant percentage of youths in and around Pretoria.
Through organizing power filled youth meetings every Saturday at the main branch and also orchestrating the same pattern in all ECG branches world-wide, more youths are opting for church than worldly entertainment.
Their passion for Jesus saw them organizing outreaches, going out into the world to win souls for Christ Jesus and to also rekindle the fire in dwindling logs on youths who lack motivation and have lost hope and direction.
Year in and year out, they do annual conferences; coming together as ECG International youth Magnets to be recharged and sent back to their various destinations to win souls, start businesses and also to start their own youth projects.
Gone are the times of Friday night clubbing, Saturday get togethers; these sold-out-for-Jesus youths dress up in their favourite fashionable jeans, bright lipsticks and branded sneakers just to be in the presence of God and to learn skills that will position them strategically after school and in their workplaces.
For them, it’s not just about the word, it’s about celebrating their salvation and using their gifts to glorify God. It is also to attract more youths who otherwise would not have joined the magnets had it been all about the word.
The youth leadership agrees that many joined the youth Magnets because of their love for certain activities like acting or dance. Now they are still there for the word of God more than acting. The Jesus bug has bit them too and they walk around wearing their passion for Him on their sleeves.
